------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can execute 'rpm -i --test fvwm-*.rpm' to determine which requirements are not satisfied on your system. To install fvwm rpm you should first install the following rpm's: * glibc >= 2.1.3, bash (or other sh replacement), XFree86-libs >= 3.3.6 Should probably go with your distribution, but see also rpmfind.net. * xpm >= 3.4g: http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/xpm.html * rplay: http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/rplay.html * libstroke (Mandrake's version should be ok for all distributions): http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/libstroke.html * readline: http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/readline.html * ncurses (5.0 or greater is recommended): http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/ncurses.html * libtermcap: http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/libtermcap.html * perl >= 5.002: http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/perl.html The following rpm's are optional, but highly recommended; if you choose not to install them, you will have to do 'rpm -i --nodeps': * GTK+ (1.2.8 is recommended, but any 1.2.* may work probably) http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/gtk+.html * glib: http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/glib.html * imlib: http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/imlib.html There are some rpm's you can try in the support/ subdirectory. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have problems installing these rpm's, you can try to force installation (--nodeps or --force), but do this only on your own risk. These packages should not interfere with any other rpm's, and you can always uninstall them using 'rpm -e fvwm fvwm-themes'. These rpm's were tested on RedHat Linux 6.2 and some others. If your distribution is different from presented here and you have problems, you should wait for your distributor to provide rpm's for fvwm and fvwm-themes. Or install them from the sources, it is not hard. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- After you installed rpm's please ensure that you run /usr/bin/fvwm2 and not other possible fvwm2 in your PATH. Update your $PATH if needed. To run fvwm put in the last line of your .Xclients or .xinitrc a call to /usr/bin/fvwm2 or /usr/bin/fvwm-themes-start. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Report any problems regarding rpm's with solutions to migo@homemail.com.
